The Bombay High Court has directed Kumar Sanu’s ex-wife, Rita Bhattacharya, to refrain from making any further defamatory statements or giving contentious interviews about the singer. Kumar Sanu recently secured a significant victory in his Rs 50 crore defamation case against Rita Bhattacharya, with the court imposing a gag order to prevent her from speaking out against him.
Bombay HC Bars Kumar Sanu’s Ex-Wife From Making Any Public Comments
On Wednesday, the court granted interim relief in the case, with Justice Milind Jadhav issuing a temporary order that restrains Rita and certain media outlets from publishing, speaking, or disseminating any false, defamatory, or slanderous remarks about Kumar Sanu or his family in any form or medium. The court observed that Rita’s previous interviews went beyond fair comment and included personal tirades against the singer. Justice Jadhav stated, “There is a clear personal tirade against Sanu in some of the interviews, which is prima facie qualified by the words used therein.”
The court also issued an injunction preventing her from posting or circulating any allegedly defamatory or misleading content about Kumar Sanu on social media, print, or digital platforms until the matter is further addressed. During the hearing, Sanu’s lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, argued that Rita’s statements had caused him substantial financial and personal harm. However, the court declined her request to have the existing interviews deleted. It noted that this issue would be considered after receiving responses from Rita and other defendants. The next hearing is scheduled for January 28.
