Bombay High Court finally grants bail to Rhea Chakraborty; rejects her brother Showik’s bail plea

After almost spending a month in Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) custody, Rhea Chakraborty’s bail has been finally granted by the Bombay High Court. The actress got the bail on a personal bond of Rs. 1 lakh.

According to a report by ANI, the Bombay High Court has granted bail to Rhea. However, it has rejected the bail plea of her brother Showik Chakraborty.

Post her release the actress will have to mark her presence for the 10 days in the police station. Speaking about the bail, ANI quoted the court saying as, “Rhea should mark her presence for 10 days in police station after release, deposit her passport, not travel abroad without court permission & inform the investigating officer if she has to leave Greater Mumbai.”

This must have come as a sigh of relief for Rhea. The court has also granted bail to Sushant’s employees Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda.

Reacting on Court’s order, Rhea’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde told NDTV, “We are delighted by the order. Truth and Justice have prevailed and ultimately the submissions on facts and law have been accepted by Justice Sarang V Kotwal. The arrest and custody of Rhea was totally unwarranted and beyond the reach of the law. The hounding and witch-hunt by three central agencies, the CBI, Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau should come to an end. We remain committed to truth. Satyameva Jayate.”

Rhea and her brother Showik were arrested by the NCB on September 8 after their drugs-related chat surfaced during the ED’s probe. NCB had claimed that Rhea and Showik were ‘active members of drugs syndicate’ and hence their release would tamper the case. However, the court has finally granted bail to the 28-year-old actress. Rhea has time and again said that she helped to arrange drugs for her late boyfriend Sushant but she has herself never consumed it.
