Prithviraj Sukumaran Breaks Silence On How Daayra Impacted Him As An Actor, Parent

When asked by a Bollywood Bubble journalist how much the script or role impacted you as parents and actors, Prithviraj Sukumaran said, “It’s not just as parents that we are worried. No. We are worried as… I’m worried as a husband, yes, as a father, as a friend to someone, as a responsible citizen of this country. I’m worried on all those facets. Unfortunately, as citizens, what can we do other than worry and hope? Yes, the film speaks about a very ugly truth within which society today exists, and we are all part of that society, you know. We are all one side of an equation, and we hope that someday this equation will be solved.”

He continued, “I have a daughter, 11 years old, and I am at that uncomfortable stage as a parent where I now have to start talking to her and letting her know about what is safe and what is unsafe. If we were to live in an ideal world, I would never have had that conversation. I would never have to have that conversation. But we do not live in an ideal world. But what can we do as citizens other than talk to our children, you know?“

The actor said, “And make no mistake, the conversation should not just be with your girl children. It should be equally, vociferously, with your boys as well, you know. And I strongly believe that if at all there is an extra ounce of responsibility on either side, it is with us, the men. We are the ones who should carry the torch to make sure that this conversation is spoken about, it’s heralded, it’s pushed in today’s society.”

Prithviraj On Reality Of Justice

The actor concluded, “And regarding the side that you’re mentioning, you really can’t take a side, you know. The side is just that of justice. We are having this conversation because there is a problem with the delivery of justice. You know, we are living in a system where the delivery of justice is so cumbersome, it is so slow, and sometimes it is so drawn out that it is humanly understandable and humanly relatable that we sometimes lose hope in it.“

He added, “So that is what needs to be addressed. In terms of justice, there are no two sides to it. We have a system of law, and everybody — every criminal, every citizen, every victim — is a subscriber to the same system of law. I just hope for a day and time when the delivery of justice is faster, is more coherent, and does not come with years and years of waiting for it to arrive. That’s all that we can speak about.”

Kareena Kapoor Khan Breaks Silence On How Daayra Impacted Him As An Actor, Parent

To the same question, Kareena Kapoor Khan answered, “I think, like Prithviraj said, that it’s the responsibility of the boy or the man as well. And I’m a mother of two sons, and of course, I’m terrified because as a mother, you kind of want to do your best. You want to protect them. You also want to show them that they are responsible. So the only thing I keep praying for is kindness. Men should be more kind. Boys should be more kind. Ye soch hamesha hai ki ladki hamesha bahut sensitive hoti hai.”

The actress added, “But that’s not true. I think there are men and boys who today have no fear of being sensitive, of crying in front of a girl or crying in front of their mother. I always tell my son, if he wants to cry, he should, if that’s what he feels, because he has to experience that and he has to know. So, it’s very terrifying. And there were some scenes that in this film would just automatically choke you. There is a scene which I have done with my fellow character, which we’ve just shot, which is my favourite scene in the film. I don’t know, Meghna’s not going to allow me to say anything more. But it just talks about that ‘ki galti hamesha ladki ki hoti hai'”.

Kareena On The Script’s Impact

She concluded, “And if you see that scene and the way Meghna has written it, and what the dialogues are and the way she has communicated that. I don’t think I needed any glycerin or anything. I just remember the lines and just…That’s my favourite scene. And I was just naturally kind of very disturbed and choked. So I’m happy I got to at least perform that because that is something challenging, and you enjoy doing that meat. And as an actor, I also enjoy doing the fun and the games and all of that. But this is something that I just love doing.”
