EXCLUSIVE: Delnaaz Irani Questions Today’s Comedy Shows’ Outrage Amid Samay Raina’s IGL Controversy, Pranit More’s Rs 370 Biryani Row; Says, “Not Supporting It But…”

As debates around comedy shows and their use of language continue to divide audiences, Delnaaz Irani has shared her perspective on the growing controversy. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, the veteran actress said she believes the issue has been blown out of proportion, especially when compared to the serious crimes taking place in society. While clarifying that she does not support body-shaming or age-shaming in the name of comedy, Delnaaz stressed that viewers have the freedom to switch off content they do not enjoy. Delnaaz Irani Questions Today’s Comedy Shows’ Outrage

When asked about nowadays comedy shows becoming a target for their language, Delnaaz Irani said, “So, I have really not seen any of those. It hasn’t even popped up for me once. But I have heard a lot about it. I would just say, to each his own. Eventually, yaar, if you think about it, so much is happening in life that this question doesn’t even hold that much importance. Honestly, in the end, it’s something to laugh about. It’s not like some grave crime has happened.”

She continued, “The real grave crimes are things like a boy being killed on a train, a girl allegedly pushing her fiancé to his death, or a 13-year-old girl being gang-raped by 30 people. When all of this is happening, if we’re only concentrating on whether someone in a comedy show called someone fat, short, or made a joke at someone’s expense, is that really more important?”

The actress concluded, “And I’m not supporting that either. I’m not saying it’s okay to body-shame someone or age-shame someone and call it comedy. And I’m not saying that at all. I’m just saying there are much bigger problems in life than focusing only on this aspect. Ultimately, if you look at it—and please don’t get me wrong—a part of me feels that if I’m watching something and I have the choice to switch it off, then I should just switch it off. Don’t watch it. I agree. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. We’re not here to teach moral science lessons.”
