lucknow central, qaidi band

After seeing the trailer of YRF’s ‘Qaidi Band’ starring newcomers Aadar Jain and Anya Singh, we discovered that the story revolves around innocent prison inmates who form a band as they share a common passion for music and how their band, called ‘Qaidi Band’ becomes a sensation, which they believe it could be the passage for them to free themselves. While this really seems like an interesting concept, we were baffled when another movie trailer with a potentially similar concept hit the internet, some days later.

The trailer of Farhan Akhtar-starrer ‘Lucknow Central’ also has a similar theme wherein his character of Kishan Mohan Girhotra gets wrongly framed for a murder and lands up in Lucknow Central prison for no fault of his. But, being an aspiring singer, he decides to use his passion to free himself from the walls of the prison. So, as we witnessed this trailer, one couldn’t help and notice the stark similarities between the main idea behind both these movies. So recently, the director of ‘Lucknow Central’, Ranjit Tiwari reacted on reports of his movie bearing similarity with ‘Qaidi Band’. The director along with the star cast who were promoting their movie in Yerwada Jail opened up on the same at the event held there. He said, “Our film is based on a real incident and all the information is available. So, Habib might have also read about it and made a film on the subject.” Nikkhil Advani had said in the past, “Ranjit came to me with a newspaper article about five inmates who wanted to escape prison and created a band. What happened subsequently to them and what is still going on is the story. It is inspired by a true story and it is a fascinating tale.”

‘Lucknow Central’ starring Farhan Akhtar, Diana Penty is written by Aseem Arora, directed by Ranjit Tiwari and is up for release on September 15, 2017. YRF’s ‘Qaidi Band’ is written and directed by Habib Faisal, produced by Aditya Chopra and will be releasing on August 25, 2017.
