Elli AvrRam got candid about the harsh realities of filmmaking, especially in multi-starrer projects. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress revealed how actors often have little control over their final screen time, with scenes frequently getting cut during editing, sometimes even due to insecurities on set. Elli AvrRam Opens Up On Limited Screen Time In Bollywood
Multi-starrer films often tend to limit the screen time of certain actors. When asked whether she believes screen time, to an extent, justifies an actor’s role, Elli AvrRam said, “You know, one thing I’ve learnt to understand and surrender to when you say yes to a film, and I’m speaking out of experience, is that you shouldn’t have expectations about how much you will be there in the final cut. Even if you sign as a main lead, your scenes can still get cut, even half of them. I’ve faced that a lot. I’m saying this from experience. “
She continued, “There was this one film where I was extremely shocked to hear that even more of my scenes had been removed. And then there was someone who finally saw the film and pointed out that removing those parts actually ruined the film because they were part of the core narrative, the ‘red line.’ I was shocked when I heard that.”
Elli Says Insecurities Amongst Actors Could Lead To Limited Screen Time
Talking about possibilities of insecurity being one of the reasons, she added, “Sometimes it makes you wonder why it happens. Whether it’s because other actors feel insecure or feel like, ‘why is that person getting more screen time?’ But then you think are you trying to make a good film? Or just trying to satisfy egos? It doesn’t make sense to me.”
The Malang actress further added,” But I’ve realised that I can’t come in and change these things. So I just need to be prepared. When I say yes to a project and perform all those scenes, after that, maybe only a part of it will actually remain in the film. And you have to be okay with that. Then it’s your choice. Do you still want to do the film or not? I’ve said no to certain projects because I felt I’d rather spend my time doing something else.”
Elli AvrRam Reveals Her Scenes Were Removed
Elli AvrRam recalled a disappointing experience where her role in a big film was drastically reduced, leaving her feeling sidelined and insulted. She shared, “There was this one film I was signed as a second lead. It was supposed to be a film with a hero and two lead actresses. I was signing the film because I was signed as a second lead. Otherwise, I would not have signed that film. When I went for the dubbing, I also saw that many things had been removed. But still, even in that dubbing, I was like, okay, I’m still standing out. Like, I’m still being given justice. I was like, ‘This is good.'”
The actress added, “When the film came out, what I have also dubbed was also removed and kept very little. My whole introduction was also removed. I mean, I’m looking like a prop in that film. Where it’s like, why is even Ellie Avram part of this film? I’ve never felt more insulted in my entire career. Which is horrible, and it was a very big film. And the film was also a disaster, a big flop.”
