Elli AvrRam Chummbak

Elli AvrRam is known for bringing certain energy and spontaneity to her performances, but her latest web series Chummbak gave her an experience that was far more personal and unexpected. While stepping into the fun and flamboyant world of Alicia (her character in Chummbak), Elli was also navigating a difficult phase in her personal life. Amid the laughter and light-heartedness on set, the actress reveals that she experienced an anxiety attack for the first time during her career.

Talking about how playing Alicia helped her cope with a personally challenging period, Elli says, “It helped me a lot to get into a fun space of just being silly and free!” She credits the atmosphere on the sets for helping her immensely, describing the team as one big family. Elli continued, “The best part of the shoot was that Chummbak set is like one big family, from our director Aatish sir to producer JD sir and all actors. The environment itself was very uplifting and everyone was so supportive and fun.”

Elli further added, “For the first time in my career did I get an anxiety attack on set and it was very traumatic to experience, but I was in great hands and got well taken care of.” For Elli, the experience also became a reminder of the kindness and support that exists within the film industry. She shared, “It really warmed my heart to once again be reminded of how many beautiful people we also have in the film industry.”

Elli: I’m All For Comedies, Especially Sitcoms

Interestingly, the project also gave Elli an opportunity to revisit a space she clearly enjoys — comedy. The actress says she has always had an affinity for the genre, particularly sitcoms, because of their ability to leave audiences feeling good. She said,“I’m all for comedies and especially sitcoms because it’s so light and entertaining that it always leaves you feeling good.”

Revealing that her love for comedy foes back to her childhood, the actress said, “In fact, since my childhood have I been enjoying to imitate funny characters. Even in school did I perform comedy plays.”

Elli’s character Alicia enters the Chummbak colony as a guest, but she hints that there could be more to her presence than initially meets the eye. She teased, “My character comes in as a guest into the Chummbak colony, but who knows what happens next! Hehe.”

Getting into Alicia was also a collaborative process for Elli. She reveals that she did some quick preparation based on director Aatish’s vision for the character. She shared, “I did my quick prep work to get into Alicia with the guidance of how my director Aatish sir wanted her to be. In fact, even on set sir would perform so brilliantly and show me exactly what to do. He is a genius in comedy!”

Elli On Working With Neena Gupta

Another highlight for Elli was getting to share screen space with veteran actress Neena Gupta once again. The two previously worked together in Goodbye, where Elli also essayed a comic role that she thoroughly enjoyed. She shared, “It was fun working with Neena mam again after Goodbye which was another comedy role of mine I thoroughly enjoyed portraying.”

While both projects allowed her to explore comedy, Elli points out that Alicia brings a very different flavour to the screen. She said, “If I compare the two roles with each other, then Alicia’s character is more loud and diva-centric.”
