Film editor Sanjib Kumar Datta breathed his last on Sunday. The editor has films like ‘Mardaani’,’Iqbal’, and ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ to his credit. He was 54-year-old.

Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor confirming Sanjib’s demise told Indian Express, “What I have heard is that he went in for a bypass but never came out of it. I am still gathering details. It is a big loss. He was the silent architect behind 13 of my films.”

Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh took to his Twitter handle to offer condolence. ‘One of our finest editor Sanjib Datta. Bhalo thakis kaka..we will miss you.”

Writer-director Jyoti Kapur Das wrote, “Sanjib Datta, wish you’d have taken better care of yourself, brother…Om Shanti”

Screenplay writer-editor Apurva Asrani, expressing his grief wrote, “Shocked to hear about the passing of Sanjib Datta. He was a fine editor whose work was synonymous with the best films of Nagesh Kukunoor. Sanjib & I shared editing credits on Aashayein & Tasveer 8×10, and I will always remember him as a mature craftsman & a thorough gentleman(sic).”
