Earlier today we came across reports of Hrithik Roshan and Alia Bhatt and other personalities from the film industry being invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Now, filmmaker Hansal Mehta sarcastically called the Oscars as a ‘Nepotistic Academy’. However, not everyone got the filmmaker’s sarcasm and he was forced to clarify his tweets.

Hansal retweeted a tweet that read, “Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, casting director Nandini Shrikent, Neeta Lulla, Shirley Abraham, Amit Madheshiya, Nishtha Jain, Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal (visual effects), Sabrina Dhawan, V Senthil Kumar feature in @TheAcademy‘s invitee list.”

Alongside the above tweet, Hansal wrote, “Nepotistic Academy”

However, soon reports of the filmmaker calling the Oscar voting body as ‘Nepotistic Academy’ just because Hrithik and Alia were invited started doing the rounds.

STOP taking away d credibility of Hrithik Roshan just because of nepotism shit. Hrithik Roshan like talents are once in a blue moon happenings celebrate him @mehtahansal just because his dad is into films don’t take away his struggles n his craft n his talent that earned him THIS, ” a user commented on Hansal’s post.

Lashing out at that user, Hansal wrote, “Get the fuck out of my timeline if you don’t get sarcasm.”

Later the filmmaker also lashed out at a few entertainment portals for not understanding the sarcasm in his tweet.

In his other tweet, the ‘Simran’ director wrote, “It is really sad if my sarcasm has to be ‘clarified'”

Coming back to the Oscar voting body’s invite, apart from Alia and Hrithik, costume designer Neeta Lulla, casting director Nandini Shrikent, documentary filmmakers Nishtha Jain, Shirley Abraham, Amit Madheshiya, visual effects supervisors Vishal Anand and Sandeep Kamal have also received the invitations.

Artistes from 68 countries have been invited and those who accept this invitation will have voting rights at the 93rd Academy Awards.
