A Dalit woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras who was gang-raped and left paralysed by four upper-caste men died at Safdarjung hospital in Delhi on Tuesday morning. People are infuriated over this heinous crime and they are demanding justice for the victim.

Several Bollywood celebs like Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut, Richa Chadha, Farhan Akhtar and Yami Gautam among others have expressed their anger over the Hathras gang-rape victim’s death.

Akshay Kumar is ‘angry’ and ‘frustrated’. He tweeted, “Angry & Frustrated!Such brutality in #Hathras gangrape.When will this stop?Our laws & their enforcement must be so strict that the mere thought of punishment makes rapists shudder with fear!Hang the culprits.Raise ur voice to safeguard daughters & sisters-its the least we can do”.

Kangana Ranaut tweeted, “Shoot these rapists publicly, what is the solution to these gang rapes that are growing in numbers every year? What a sad and shameful day for this country. Shame on us we failed our daughters #RIPManishaValmiki”.

“Every single time i read about a sexual assault/abuse/Rape case it saddens me so so deeply & boils my blood at the same time! I genuinely feel we need stricter laws & much more horrifying punishments to generate FEAR!! And fast track judgements on such cases! #HathrasHorror,” read Kriti Sanon’s tweet.

Richa Chadha also sought justice for the victim as she tweeted, “#JusticeForHathrasVictim ? everyone deserves to live with dignity. Punish the perpetrators.”

Yami Gautam too expressed her anger. She wrote, “Tried really hard to gather my thoughts before expressing my sorrow, anger & disgust. It’s 2020 & still so many Nirbhayas have to give their lives. Can’t imagine the pain she must have endured & her family. Praying for severe punishment & justice #RIPManishaValmiki”.

“Sad sad day. How much longer can this be allowed to go on .. #Hathras,” tweeted Farhan Akhtar. 

For the unversed, on September 14, the victim was dragged by her dupatta into the fields, where she was cutting grass with her family. Her spinal cord was injured. Fakhrul Hoda, head of neurosurgery at the Aligarh hospital where she was earlier treated, told reporters that “Surgery to fix her spine could only have been done after her condition improved. The damage to the spinal cord appeared to be permanent.”

All four accused are in jail. They will now also be charged with murder.
