Reasons To Watch Kareena Kapoor Khan, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Daayra In Theatres

Truthful Depiction Of Society & The Heinous Crimes Prevalent In It

Meghna Gulzar is known for always holding up a mirror and showing her audience exactly what’s happening or happened in our country (while sometimes taking cinematic liberties). Be it Talvar, Raazi, Chhapaak or Sam Bahadur, Gulzar has never shied away from speaking the truth and she’s done so once again with Daayra. From showing how society pushes for underage criminals to be given a second chance to how the police sometimes overlooks the urgency of cases and how the people want quick justice, Meghna has hold nothing back when it comes to showing our society as it is and how crimes and criminals are protected by law while victims have to suffer.

Crisp, Powerful Writing

Meghna Gulzar, Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani have treated Daayra with respect and presented a need-of-the-hour story with incredible and powerful writing. Be it the manner in which Prithviraj Sukumaran’s DCP Raman Kumar is written or Kareena Kapoor Khan’s DCP Ajooni Kohli is presented, the characters seems real and not superficial. Also the treatment given to writing supporting characters like Kshitee Jog’s Parvati Pujari is commendable. The dialogues too crisp and hard-hitting.

Impactful acting by Kareena & Prithviraj

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s performances as DCP Raman Kumar and DCP Ajooni Kohli, respectively, deserves a round of applause. Despite neither DCP Ajooni or DCP Raman being given gratuitous heroics or blustery bravado, both characters still stand out thanks to the manner in which they bring to live the manner in which both are written. Both Kareena and Prithviraj go beyond what is expected and deliver memorable performances.

Meghna Gulzar’s incredible eye for detail and narrative flow

Known for films like Talvar, Raazi, Chhapaak and Sam Bahadur among others, Meghna Gulzar once more impresses when it comes to telling a story that’s morally complex and makes you question your own ethics and values. Her direction is impeccable and her eye to details deserves to be studies and applauded.

Engaging narrative & cinematography

The film isn’t lengthy and that’s one of the main reasons viewers should watch the film this weekend its. The story – despite following a non-linear narrative, is engaging and will have you on the edge of your seat from start to end. The cinematography too deserves a round of applauds as it transports you to the lonely highways, the open fields and a small town where nothing is hidden while still being behind curtains.

About Daayra

Co-written and directed by Meghna Gulzar, Daayra is produced by Vineet Jain and Dhaval Jain under banner of Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios. Giving the film a 4-star rating, Bollywood Bubble wrote in its review, “Daayra is unapologetic and raw as it shows the opposite sides of a coin and how individuals – based on their personal ethics, choose which side they want to be on. It doesn’t praise or demean either side, however, it justly shows how both are right. If you enjoy thrillers, do watch this as it’s unlike any you have seen before.”

Book your tickets and watch the film in theatres this weekend as it’s a mirror of society and depicts the mindset of the people living in it.
