Hindi Medium 2: Irrfan-starrer sequel gets a new director, Homi comes on board
Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar-starrer ‘Hindi Medium’ was undoubtedly one of the best films of 2017. The movie indeed struck the right chord with its relevant storyline and a message on our country’s education system. Following its success, the makers are all set to bring a sequel with Irrfan playing the lead role again. Owing to changes in the team, today producer Dinesh Vijan has confirmed that filmmaker Homi Adajania is on board to helm the sequel, thus replacing Saket Chaudhary who directed the first part.
Dinesh Vijan has said in his statement, “Homi doesn’t make films very often as he refuses to do stuff that doesn’t bowl him over. But when I narrated this one to him, he loved it. And when I saw his reaction, it was a no-brainer. I guess from Maddock’s stable of directors, Homi was the most unlikely choice for ‘Hindi Medium 2’ and that’s exactly I have signed him on.” (Also Read: Irrfan Khan honoured at Dubai International Film Festival)
Having come on board for this much talked about second part, Homi said, “I ambled into Dinoo’s (Dinesh Vijan) room and he was sitting down to a narration. I had enjoyed the first one (‘Hindi Medium’) and the way these writers have taken the narrative forward is very clever. So yeah, I pretty much gatecrashed the narration and it was so engaging and hilarious that I told him I’d be happy to direct it if he had no director attached to the project. It’s been a while since I’ve found any material so amusing yet emotional.”
The professional association of Dinesh Vijan and Homi Adajania goes back a long way as Homi’s (all) previous projects as a filmmaker, ‘Being Cyrus’, ‘Cocktail’ and ‘Finding Fanny’ have been produced by Dinesh Vijan.
Talking about the film, the story of ‘Hindi Medium 2’ will be flash-forwarded by a decade and will have as much of Raj’s story (played by Irrfan) as his daughter Pia, who will be seen finishing her high school and figuring out what to do next.
Certainly, we are eagerly looking forward to watching this sequel.
