jaya bachchan, madhuri dixit

A political analyst Mithun Vijay Kumar filed a lawsuit against OTT giant Netflix over an episode in the popular show ‘The Big Bang Theory’. Kumar accused ‘The Big Bang Theory’ of using a ‘derogatory term’ to refer to Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit. For the uninitiated, in one of the episodes of ‘The Big Bang Theory’, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit were compared with each other.

The Big Bang Theory’s comment on Madhuri

In episode one of The Big Bang Theory’s second season, Jim Parsons who plays Sheldon Cooper, compared Aishwarya with Madhuri. He called Aishwarya ‘a poor man’s Madhuri Dixit’. To which, Kunal Nayyar who plays Raj Koothrapalli responds saying, ‘Aishwarya Rai is a goddess, by comparison, Madhuri Dixit is a leprous prostitute.’

Celebs react to the distasteful comment

Jaya Bachchan, Urmila Matondkar, and Dia Mirza has strongly reacted to Kunal’s derogatory dialogue in The Big Bang Theory episode. Speaking with Times of India, Jaya Bachchan said, “Is this man (Kunal Nayyar) insane? Badi gandi zubaan hai. He needs to be sent to mental asylum. His family should be asked what they think of his comment.”

Urmila Matondkar, who is known to speak her mind, responded saying, “What?! I have no idea about the whole episode, so I shouldn’t be commenting. But if it is true, it is beyond outrageous. It shows their extremely cheap mentality. Do they really think this is humorous?

Dia Mirza too reacted to Kunal’s remark and called it ‘disrespectful and distasteful.’

Check out the statement

For the unversed, Kumar has demanded removal of The Big Bang Theory from Netflix. A part of the statement read, “I strongly believe that streaming service providers have a responsibility to carefully curate the content that they offer on their platforms. It is their duty to ensure that the material they present does not include derogatory, offensive, or defamatory content. I was deeply troubled by the use of a derogatory term in one of the shows on Netflix – Big Bang Theory. This term was used in reference to the acclaimed actress Madhuri Dixit, and it was not only offensive and deeply hurtful but also showed a lack of regard for her dignity.”

Netflix or The Big Bang Theory actors Jim Parsons and Kunal Nayyar are yet to react to the controversy.
