Karan Johar recalls the first time he met Sridevi, says, ‘I was crazy and madly in love with her’

Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor appeared on Karan Johar’s popular chat show Koffee With Karan season 8. The sisters had a lot to talk about including their relationship rumours, family, and more. On the other hand, Karan Johar confessed his love for late Sridevi. The filmmaker recalled the time when he met her and how ‘crazy and madly in love’ he was with Sridevi.

Karan Johar talks about his love for Sridevi

KJo said, “I have to say one thing. You do know, and I have said this time and again, how crazy and madly I was in love with your mother. I was her biggest fan. Like from the time the VHS phase came in. You know, you all have lived through different beats of technology, but for me, the video phase was for me when I saw everything.”

He added, “That was a phase, when your mom and jeetu-ji (Jeetendra) did these movies. Himmatwala, Justice Chaudhury, Maqsad, Mawaali… and there were a string of them and I’ve seen all of them. And the time when I saw her finally on Mr India’s… It was a premiere and the next day I went to the cinema. And I was like, ‘Oh God, I think I am obsessed’.”

The filmmaker went on to add, “So, the first time I met her was actually 1993 when she did a film for my dad called Gumrah. And I went to this photoshoot that Rakesh Shrestha was shooting, and my knees were rattling because I was so nervous. And my dad went to introduce me and I don’t know what I had said, or what I had done. And that’s also the first day I had met Manish Malhotra in my entire life. And I thought he was really snooty and snobbish because I said, ‘She’s looking fabulous’. He said, ‘Go tell her’ and I was like ‘I can’t just walk up to Sridevi and say, ‘you’re looking great'”. I couldn’t do it.”

The legendary actress passed away on February 24, 2018, in Dubai. Sridevi’s sudden and untimely demise left the entire nation shocked.
