Legendary Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6 due to multiple failed organs. Lata ji was crowned as the Nightingale of India and was honoured with Bharat Ratna, Padma Shri and many more civilian awards. However, her fans are miffed as Grammy 2022 failed to pay a tribute to the legendary singer in the Memoriam section after Oscars 2022. Along with Lata, legendary music composer, Bappi Lahiri was also not mentioned in the Memoriam section of the Grammy which has upset the fans in India.

Among many, a fan wrote, “Both the Oscars and Grammy awards claim to promote diversity but surprisingly none of them bothered to showcase Lata Mangeshkar in their section to remember artists who are no longer with us. #GRAMMYs #Oscars #LataMangeshkar” while another one said, “Why #LataMangeshkar missing from #GrammyAwards memoir. She was the best from last 7 decades in her field, probably no one on the planet contributed to Music as much as she did, still she was ignored by West and Indians go La La over Grammy’s. Bust the west’s so-called supremacy.

There was another one who said, “Telling me one of the world’s BIGGEST music icon #LataMangeshkar died this year and couldn’t get mentioned in the Grammy “in memoriam”? Truly a rubbish show indeed.

Nevertheless, Lata Ji and Bappi Lahiri’s names were mentioned on the Grammy’s official website. Earlier, The Academy had featured late stars Irrfan Khan, Bhanu Athaiya, Sushant Singh Rajput and Rishi Kapoor in its In Memoriam section.

For the unversed, in 1969, the Lag Jaa Gale singer was honoured with Padma Bhushan, in 1989 – Dada Saheb Phalke Award, in 1999, Padma Vibhushan, in 2001, Bharat Ratna, in 2008, Lata Ji was honoured with “One Time Award for Lifetime Achievement” on the 60th anniversary of India’s independence.
