Mahima Chaudhry recently opned up about the life of actresses in earlier times and how Bollywood was majorly male dominated. Mahima revealed that actresses were preferred to be virgins and not have kissed anyone before. The Pardes actress also said that marriage and having kids was a total dead end for the acting career of a woman back in the day. But, Mahima Chaudhry is happy that female actors are now calling the shots when it comes to decisions that were only taken by the men of the industry.

Mahima told Hindustan Times, “I think the industry is getting to a position where female actors are also calling the shots. They getter better parts, better pay, endorsements, they’re at a great and much powerful position. They have a longer shelf life than before.”

Talking about female actresses in earlier times, Mahima said, “The minute you started dating someone, people would write you off because they only wanted a virgin who had not kissed. If you were dating someone, it was like, ‘Oh! She’s dating!’. If you were married, then forget it, you career was over, and if you had a child, it was like absolutely over.”

Mahima, who made her Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan, said that even male actors kept their marriage under wraps as it affected how they were perceived, she explained talking about Aamir Khan, “Even when Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak came, we didn’t know he was married, same for Govinda. People didn’t show their children’s photographs or expose them as that would tell their age! All these things have really changed between now.”

Bollywood, although has a long way to go, has evolved a great deal over the years where female lead movies are applauded and appreciated, where women can have a personal and professional life without damaging the two or keeping any of it under wraps.
