RajKummar Rao declared as National Icon by Election Commission, official ceremony to take place this week

Rajkummar Rao is an actor par excellence who has truly proved his versatility. He has carved a niche for himself in the film industry with some brilliant performances, and notable films like Badhaai Do, Roohi, Newton, Trapped, Citylights among others. His movie Newton recently clocked 6 years. While it won him several accolades, it has added another feather to his hat. As per latest update, New ton actor RajKummar Rao is apponted as National Icon by Election Commission.

The actor left an indelible mark with his performance of a poll officer in a Naxal-affected district of Chhattisgarh in his film Newton. Owing to this, the Election Commission has appointed him as National icon. For those unversed, the poll body appoints prominent and well-known figures as National Icon in order to encourage people to take part in the election process. A formal ceremony regarding the same will take place on Thursday, October 26, 2023, ie. on Thursday.

Earlier, the EC recognised actors Pankaj Tripathi, Aamir Khan and sportspersons, such as Sachin Tendulkar, M S Dhoni and M C Mary Kom, as national icons.

About Newton

Rao had portrayed the role of a principled government clerk in the movie Hindi film “Newton” in 2017. His character was determined to conduct a fair election in the Maoist-affected areas of Chhattisgarh. The movie won the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and was also India’s nominee for the Best Foreign Language Film category at Oscars.
