Nana Patekar talks about Padmavati film

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ has been facing a lot of protest. The film was originally slated to release today on December 1, but it has been postponed due to the controversy surrounding it. Addressing this issue, veteran actor Nana Patekar said that he strongly condemned the death threats given to actress Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

It was while speaking to media when Nana Patekar said, “‘Padmavati’ has not been released yet. You don’t know what has been shown in the film. I don’t want to get into this, but what I believe is that giving such threats of cutting Deepika’s nose and beheading Sanjay is completely wrong and unacceptable.” Well, it is a known fact that when it comes to sharing his thoughts and opinions, Nana has never minced words and this was something that was witnessed during this interaction here as well. The actor who has worked with director Bhansali in the latter’s debut directorial ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ (1996) said that he didn’t like his last film ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015). (Also Check: PICS: Does Ranveer have a message for those protesting against ‘Padmavati’?)

“Have you seen ‘Bajirao Mastani’, I didn’t like it. I thought how can the character of Peshwa Bajirao be like this. He can’t sing and perform on the songs those were featured in the film. But, still Bhansali made the film and what can I do. You tell me, I’ll do that. What should I do, tell,” added the veteran actor.

Recently, as per an agency, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had appeared before a panel along with lyricist and now the CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, where he was asked for justifications, he repeated that these controversies are just based on rumours and nothing else. The filmmaker also stated that he has depicted the queen in her full glory, and that his movie is based on the poem ‘Padmavat’ written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

“All the controversy over the film is based on rumours. I have not distorted facts. The film is based on a poem by Malik Muhammad Jayasi. We don’t intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments,” Bhansali told the panel.

Talking about the film, ‘Padmavati’ stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor playing the lead roles.
