On Thursday, October 8, veteran actor Nana Patekar passes away after suffering a cardiac arrest while in Goa. The ‘Krantiveer’ actor was found unconscious at his residence during the wee hours and was rushed to a nearby private hospital. Despite the hospital team trying to revive him for nearly 45 minutes, the actor was pronounced dead around 5:20 am. Since the news of his passing made the headlines, several well known stars from across the country took to social media to pay his their last respects.
Late last evening, around the same time as his last rites were being performed in Pune, Nana’s Welcome co-star, Anil Kapoor, took to Instagram and posted a emotional note mourning his demise. The duo played on-screen brothers Uday and Majnu in the comedy drama and were made the audience laugh with their chemistry. Scroll below to see his post.
Anil Kapoor Mourns Loss Of Dear Friend, Nana Patekar
Around 11 pm, Anil Kapoor took to his Instagram handle handle and shared a picture of Nana Patekar and him walking together. Dressed in casual while on the sets of film, the duo are seen holding hands while walking away from the camera. Mourning his dear friend, Anil wrote, “Mera dost mujhe chhodkar chala gaya… pehle Satish aur ab mera Nanya. (My friend left me. First Satish, and now my Nanya.)“
The ‘Subedaar’ actor continued, “NANYA, tu achanak bohot jaldi chala gaya… Duniya ka sabse bada kalakaar, humein chhodkar hamesha-hamesha ke liye chala gaya. Bohot miss karunga tujhe, life mein, set par, phone par aur bade parde par… (Nanya, you suddenly left so early. The biggest artiste in the world left us forever. I will miss you in life, on set, on screen and on phone).“
Commenting on his post, Anil’s daughter, actress-fashionista Sonam Kapoor wrote, “I’m so sorry dad. You really loved him.” A fan – using Nana’s famous dialogue from Welcome, penned a conversation Uday would be having with Majnu. It read, “Bhagwan ka diya hua sab kuch hai, daulat hai, shohrat hai, izzat hai…..bas ab samay ni hai…..chalta hun Majnu”
Nana and Anil shared screen space in 4 films. The duo played the short-tempered don Uday and his loyal, flamboyant painter-brother Majnu in the Welcome films. They also starrer together in Parinda (1989) and Subedaar (2026).
Nana Patekar’s Career & Death
Nana Patekar passed in Goa on the morning of October 8. As per reports, the veteran actor was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa before being rushed to Manipal Hospital. There, doctors attempted to revive the actor for around 45 minutes but were unsuccessful. The actor was declared dead at around 5:20 am. Doctors citied cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
The National award-winning actor was cremated late last night with full state honours at his ancestral farmhouse in Donje, Pune. Politicians, actors and several fans of the actors were present during his final rites. The actor was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2013 for his contribution in cinema and arts.
The recipient of three National Film Awards and two Maharashtra State Film Awards, Nana Patekar was last seen on the big screen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2026 romantic action thriller O’ Romeo. He also starred in Prakash Jha’s socio-political series Sankalp and made a cameo appearance in Anil Kapoor-led Subedaar this year. He will be seen playing pivotal parts in films such as Eetha,, Shakti Shalini and The Confession Of Mary.
