When a director starts making a film, he already has certain actors in his mind who he thinks would be apt to play the protagonist. However, not every time the director succeeds in having who he wants in his film.

Well, a similar thing happened when Sanjay Leela Bhansali started making his magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’. According to a report in The Quint, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was impressed with Prabhas’ performance in the ‘Baahubali’ series and had reportedly first offered the role of  Maharawal Ratan Singh to him.

The report also claims that Prabhas, despite being interested in working with Bhansali, turned down the role after the narration of the film. The ‘Baahubali’ actor turned down the project since he found that Ratan Singh’s role wasn’t a meaty one, so taking up that role would have meant doing injustice to the image he had built thanks to the hard work he had put in SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’ series. Apparently, Prabhas wanted his character to be as important as Deepika Padukone’s.

The role of Maharawal Ratan Singh eventually went to actor Shahid Kapoor. ‘Padmaavat’ starred Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh along with Shahid in lead roles. While Deepika played the titular character of Rajput queen Rani Padmavati, Shahid played her husband and Ranveer Singh played the role of Alauddin Khilji.

The film that released earlier this year, opened to some great reviews most of them praising Ranveer Singh for his terrific portrayal of Alauddin Khilji.

Just imagine Prabhas romancing Deepika on the silver screen, how amazing it would have been had the Telugu superstar accepted this film. Anyway, we agree with his reasoning of not taking up this role as well.

Let’s hope some other film brings these supremely talented actors together someday.
