Prakash Jha CONFIRMS Raajneeti 2 Is In Pre-Production; Has THIS To Say About Ranbir Kapoor Critiquing His Performance In The OG

Filmmaker Prakash Jha has once again confirmed that he is actively working on the sequel to his acclaimed political drama Raajneeti. The director recently shared an update on the long-rumoured project, revealing that Raajneeti 2 is currently in the pre-production stage.

During a conversation with SCREEN, Prakash Jha spoke about how real-life political dynamics often influence his storytelling. While discussing how mythology often inspires his films, he confirmed that the upcoming sequel is already taking shape. He said, “Even in the second part of Raajneeti, which is currently in pre-production and I’m actively working upon, a lot has been drawn from those sources (mythology).”

Interestingly, this is not the first time Jha has spoken about the sequel. According to earlier reports by Hindustan Times, the filmmaker had confirmed last year that he was developing a follow-up to Raajneeti. His latest statement now indicates that the project has moved forward into pre-production, signalling steady progress on the political drama.

Prakash Jha On Ranbir Kapoor Critiquing His Performance

During the same interview, Jha also reflected on how Ranbir Kapoor has been seen revisiting his performance in the 2010 political thriller and judging his own work critically. Reacting to his comments, Prakash said, “A good actor will always review their work that way. That’s his intelligence, his interpretation, and I appreciate it. At that moment, he gave his best. Of course, as an actor, or as a director or writer, when you revisit your work, you often feel you could have done better. Context changes over time. But he did a very good job, and of course, there’s always room to do even better.”

Will Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif Return For Raajneeti 2?

The original Raajneeti featured an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee and Nana Patekar. However, Jha has not yet confirmed whether any of the original cast members will reprise their roles in the sequel.

Still, fans remain curious about whether Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif could return to the political saga that played a significant role in shaping their early careers. Since Raajneeti continues to enjoy strong recall among audiences, speculation around the sequel’s casting remains high.
