Priyanka Chopra

Actress Priyanka Chopra who is making waves across the world, recently revealed the tough times that she faced while venturing into Hollywood. She revealed that she was once asked to not be a part of a movie because of her ethnic looks. Not just this, there were instances when movie projects were taken away from her because she disagreed over something.

Speaking about the same, the actress revealed, “When the opportunity came my way, I saw it as an opportunity to break the ceiling for actors that look like me… Once I was asked not to be a part of a cast because I was too ethnic… I didn’t realise how hard it was until I came to North America.” The actress who is a #ShareHerJourney Ambassador was the guest at the TIFF Soiree organised by Toronto International Film Festival. In a chat with festival artistic director Cameron Bailey, the actress spoke about her journey as a Bollywood star before foraying into Hollywood with popular TV series like ‘Quantico’ and her movie debut ‘Baywatch’. The snippets from her conversation were shared by the official Twitter page of TIFF. (Also Read: Priyanka Chopra has the perfect answer to trolls on social media)

She said, “My role in ‘Quantico’ was not written for an Indian girl. I’ve had people take away films from me because I might not have agreed with them.” At the red carpet of Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Priyanka told, “No one’s going to hand it out to you, whether it’s credit, whether it’s parts, whether it is the ability to make movies. You can understand how hard and few and far between these opportunities are. But it’s got to take people like us to stand out there, dig our heels in and say we’re not going to stand for it anymore”, she said.
