Priyanka Chopra Opens Up On Her Journey From Bollywood To Hollywood

While appearing on the ‘Not Skinny But Not Fat’ podcast, Priyanka Chopra Jonas reflected her viewpoint on acting. She shared how her understanding of acting has evolved over the years. She opened up on entering the film industry at just 18, shortly after winning the Miss World 2000 title. Following this, she spoke on how her perspective on the profession was very different from what it is today.

She said, “My 18-year-old self wanted that for myself. My relationship with the job was very naive because I thought it was about fame.” Priyanka further added, “Only after I started working did I realise that fame is just a byproduct of the job—it isn’t the job itself. I have done nearly 70 films between Bollywood and Hollywood.”

Explaining the reasoning behind her decision, she said, “When I was working in India, I started feeling a little limited. I like using that word because I wanted to see what else was out there.” Priyanka also shared, “In American pop culture, I had only seen people like Mindy Kaling and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. There were very few Indian female or even male actors working in Hollywood. I wanted to understand why we didn’t have that kind of representation.”

Addressing speculation about whether she was going through a difficult phase in Bollywood before making the move, Priyanka Chopra Jonas responded candidly, saying, “Nothing is an easy ride. We all have battles we deal with. I’m just someone who doesn’t like staying in the sh*t because then you get used to the smell.”

She further explained that her approach to challenges has always been to adapt and move ahead, rather than remaining stuck in difficult circumstances. Reflecting on how she deals with hardships, she added, “I believe strongly in pivoting. When life gets tough, we have the ability to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, take a moment to grieve and feel the pain—and then pivot. I have done that many times in my career.”
