The mega trailer of O’Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Farida Jalal, Tamannah Bhatia, Disha Patani, and Vikrant Massey in a special appearance, was unveiled today amid mounting anticipation. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala spoke with rare honesty about the unpredictability of cinema, his enduring relationship with storytelling, and the quiet faith that has guided him through four decades in the film industry.
Sajid Nadiadwala On Producing O’Romeo
Known for backing films that cut across genres and generations, Nadiadwala dismissed the notion of being boxed into a single kind of cinema. Reflecting on questions around his return to romance, he said, “No, I do not feel that way. I have been making films for many years, and honestly, we never really know. I was talking to my journalist friends, and they said, ‘How did you come back to a romantic film? That’s not your kind of cinema.’ I told them, ‘I made Highway, that was 10 years ago. I made Chhichhore, which won a National Award, that was 5 years ago.'”
The producer further added, “What actually happens is that once you start making a film, you fall in love with the story. But getting an audience, that part is something you can never fully control. Every Friday for the last 40 years, we have been praying: ‘This Friday should be magical.’ Now even my son is joining me. For me, it feels like I’ll have to keep praying every Friday for the next 40 years too.”
He further added, “We do everything we can work on the script, performances, readings, choose the best locations, and promote the film as much as possible. But in the end, whether the film becomes a hit or not, that’s in God’s hands. And I think that’s what cinema is all about.”
