Aakash A Kaushik Mukul Dev Udta Teer

Written and directed by Aakash A Kaushik, Ayushmann Khurrana-led Udta Teer has been impressing the masses globally. As the spy comedy continues to mint moolah across the globe, Askash in a recent interview spoke about Late Mukul Dev, his death, his performance in the film and the use of AI to dub his dialogue post his demise. Read on to know all he said.

AI Was Used To Add Mukul Dev’s Operation Sindoor Dialogue

During a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Aakash A Kaushik revealed he was unaware of Mukul Dev’s illness and hospitalisation. Talking about the actor who passed away at the age of 54 on May 23, 2025, Akash said, “It came as a shock to me. I had spoken to him for a month. When the news of his demise came, I was completely stunned. For the next few days, I just couldn’t work.”

During the same interaction, Aakash also spoke about mentioning Operation Sindoor – which took place on May 7, 2025, in the film. For the unversed, the film includes a sequence where Mukul Dev’s character is seen mentioning it. When asked if he tweaked the script and Mukul’s dialogue to include the landmark incident in the final, Aakash said, “Yes. We had plans to show something else. But when Operation Sindoor happened, we decided to tweak his dialogue.”

Given that by the time the edit was made to the script Mukul was no longer with us, the writer-director spoke about how they recreate the late actor’s voice. When asked if they used AI, Aakash replied, “Yes, we did.”

Fondly remembering Mukul Dev, Aakash A Kaushik said, “He would send me voice notes on WhatsApp. I still have those voice notes and listen to them. He would say, ‘Tune yeh bahut accha role likha hai. Iss picture ke baad, mujhe poore India se pyaar milega’. I would respond, ‘Sir, maine accha likha hai, lekin aapne usse bhi better perform kiya hain’. I promised him that he would get a lot of love, and he did.” He concluded, I am sure he’s watching from above and feeling very proud of himself.”

This Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan starrer is a must watch in theatres not only for its ability to make you laugh but also to show how a spy film doesn’t always need to be serious and filled with over-the-top action.”
