Ram Gopal Varma Warns Aditya Dhar, Yami Gautam Ahead Of Dhurandhar: The Revenge Release; Says, “Move Forward With Extra Caution”

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has shared his thoughts on the buzz surrounding the upcoming action sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, praising its trailer while also offering a stark warning for director Aditya Dhar and actor Yami Gautam. According to Varma, the film’s scale and storytelling could mark a major shift in the industry, but that success also means the couple will face intense scrutiny from their peers.

In a talk with Rediff, speaking about the impact of Dhar’s filmmaking approach, Varma said the director has significantly altered the way action and storytelling are being approached in Indian cinema. Saying, “You have to understand what Aditya Dhar has done to the movie business. He has changed the entire grammar of storytelling on screen. Our movies will never be the same again, and I am talking about all the languages, not only Hindi.”

He explained that the industry is being pushed to rethink its own standards because of such ambitious projects. He said, “In Telugu, many of the forthcoming big-budget action films are undergoing massive reshooting. Which means huge budgetary liabilities.”

He added, “So, of course, they hate him. He has forced them to get out of their comfort zones, and that costs a helluva lot of money.”

RGV’s comments come after the trailer of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, aka Dhurandhar 2 generated strong reactions online for its scale and action-heavy presentation. The filmmaker wrote, “This is STRATOSPHERIC LEVEL .. @AdityaDharFilms is on a RAMPAGE of REVENGE #Dhurandhar2.”

“The Film Industry Is Waiting For Them To Fumble And Fall”

However, despite praising Dhar’s impact, Varma also cautioned that success often invites resistance within the film industry. According to him, the couple’s growing influence means many people will be watching closely for any misstep. “Aditya Dhar and Yami Gautam will have to move forward with extra caution. The film industry is waiting for them to fumble and fall.”

Ram Gopal Varma suggested that when filmmakers raise the bar with ambitious projects, it creates pressure on others to match those standards, something not everyone in the industry appreciates. As a result, he believes Dhar’s success has disrupted the comfort zone of many filmmakers, forcing them to rethink budgets, scale and storytelling techniques.
