Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya on Thursday (August 5) bagged the silver medal in the men’s 57 kg freestyle event after a loss to Russia’s Zavur Uguev in the final. Uguev has been a two-time defending world champion. The ROC wrestler registered a 7-4 win against the 23-year-old Dahiya. The entire nation was rooting for the champion but today was the day for the Russian champion as he defended too well to win the bout. Social media is flooded with netizens showering congratulatory messages for Dahiya. Also, our celebs are not left behind as they have been cheering for Indian players who took part in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Ravi becomes the second Indian wrestler to win the silver medal at the Olympic Games after Sushil Kumar, and a fifth wrestler to bag an Olympic medal. He is Asian Champion in the men’s 57kg freestyle category and a bronze medallist at the 2019 World championships. He won the silver medal at the U23 World Championship in 2018.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Ravi Kumar Dahiya is a remarkable wrestler! His fighting spirit and tenacity are outstanding. Congratulations to him for winning the Silver Medal at Tokyo 2020. India takes great pride in his accomplishments.”
