Like most of us, our Bollywood celebs also have their nicknames. Rishi Kapoor was fondly called by the name ‘Chintu’ by his family members, peers and close friends. Well, you might have always wanted to know how and who gave this nickname to Rishi. In his interview with Rajat Sharma in ‘Aap Ki Adalat’, Rishi Kapoor revealed the story behind his nickname.

He said, “When my brother Randhir Kapoor was in school, he found a poem that had the lines: ‘Chote Se Chintu Miya, Lambi Si Pooch. Jaha Jaye Chintu Miya, Waha Jaye Pooch’. Since then I got the name.”

Many times, he said that he didn’t like his nickname. Earlier, in one of his tweets, he even expressed the struggle he went through to get his name Rishi Kapoor back.

“Worked very hard to get Rishi Kapoor back as my name! Parents must never nick name a child. I never did,” he tweeted.

Rishi Kapoor was called Chintu, while his brother, Randhir is called Dabboo, and their youngest brother Rajiv is called Chimpu.

Rishi Kapoor made his debut as a child artiste with ‘Mera Naam Joker’ where he played the young version of the lead character Raj Kapoor. His movie ‘Bobby’ in 1973 made him star and post that he never looked back in his career. Though there was a rough patch in his career, he got back to the track and later took voluntary retirement from acting. After few years, he started doing character roles and earned name and fame both. His roles in movies like ‘Agneepath’, ‘Kapoor & Sons’, ‘Mulk’, ‘102 Not Out’ are really praiseworthy.
