It’s a proud moment for India as not just one, but two films from the country have made it to the shortlist at the Academy Awards 2023. SS Rajamouli’s RRR has become a favourite this international award season and as expected, the film seems to be making its way to the Oscars 2023 nomination as well with this feat. Not just that, India’s official entry this year to the Oscars, Chhello Show which is translated to Last Film Show in English, has also made its way to the shortlist.

With just one month to go for the official nomination announcement for next year’s edition, The Academy unveiled a nomination shortlist in 10 categories on Thursday morning. The first film from India to make the shortlist this time is Chhello Show aka Last Film Show, which is competing against 14 more films from across the world in the Best International Feature Film category. Chhello Show had beaten heavy favourites RRR and The Kashmir Files to become India’s official entry at Oscars 2023.

Apart from that, RRR song Naatu Naatu also made it to the shortlist of Best Music (Original Song) category. The song has already garnered several international nods including at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Hollywood Critics Association awards. The song featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR became a rage in India on its release, and people globally are also praising it. Even actress Alia Bhatt celebrated this achievement through her social media.

Two films in the Documentary Feature Film category have also been shortlisted from India – All That Breathes and The Elephant Whisperers, and the final nomination list will be announced by the Academy on January 24, 2023. This year’s ceremony will take place on March 12, 2023 with Jimmy Kimmel returning as the host for the third time.
