Sanjay Dutt Recalls Father Sunil Dutt, Sisters Being Threatened When He Was In Jail; Says, “It Took Them 25 Years To Realise That…”

Sanjay Dutt recently opened up about his family’s struggles during his time in prison, sharing his reflections on the chaos of 1993. Having served a five-year sentence under the Arms Act and been released in 2016, Dutt spoke candidly on a podcast about the fear, confusion, and constant pressure his family faced during that turbulent period. He described the environment as chaotic and unpredictable, affecting not only him but everyone around him.

Sanjay Dutt On Family Struggles While He Was In Prison

“My father was being threatened, my sisters were being threatened. They said I had a gun, but they couldn’t prove it. So I don’t know what it was that actually put me inside there. All I can say is that it shouldn’t have taken them 25 years to realize that I was not involved in the TADA Act or the bomb blast case. I don’t know why it took them 25 years to realize that, and then convict me under the Arms Act without having a gun or even finding one,” Sanjay Dutt shared during his appearance on The Himanshu Mehta Show.

Despite the emotional and mental challenges, the actor revealed that he used his time in prison as an opportunity for personal growth. Instead of succumbing to frustration or anger, he chose to turn the experience into a journey of learning and self-improvement.

Sanjay On His Prison Experience

“But I take it as a part of my life, and I take it as a learning. I learned a lot, learned the laws of the land. I learned to be a prosecutor, and I learned to be a defense lawyer. And, I read many books on law. I faced my jail time with dignity. During my time there, I read many books, prayed a lot, chanted, and meditated. I read the Shiv Puran, the Ganesh Puran, the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata. That time in jail helped me understand my religion and the great gods better.”

However, what troubled him most was the slow pace of the legal system. He observed that many inmates lose precious years simply waiting for their cases to move forward.

Sanjay’s Upcoming Projects

On the professional front, Sanjay Dutt is set to star in the upcoming film Dhurandhar, which is scheduled to release on December 5. He will share the screen with stars like Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sara Arjun.
