Speculation around Inshallah has resurfaced as reports suggest Shah Rukh Khan may step in to replace Salman Khan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s long-delayed project. While the potential revival has generated excitement, the reported casting and the film’s premise have also sparked debate online. Scroll down to read more.
Shah Rukh Khan To Replace Salman Khan In Inshallah?
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-anticipated project Inshallah, which was shelved in 2019, is reportedly back in development. Initially announced with Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt in lead roles, the film is now said to feature Shah Rukh Khan as the male lead, replacing Salman Khan following creative differences that had earlier stalled the project.
As per a report by Deccan Chronicle, Shah Rukh Khan may take over the part originally envisioned for Salman Khan, marking a potential reunion between the actor and Bhansali after 25 years since their celebrated collaboration on Devdas. Alia Bhatt is expected to remain attached to the project, with chances of playing a young woman who falls in love with an older man. However, there has been no official confirmation yet. And, neither Shah Rukh Khan nor Sanjay Leela Bhansali has commented on the speculation.
While fans are excited about the possibility of this collaboration, the reported casting has sparked mixed reactions online. The film’s narrative revolves around a relationship between an older man and a younger woman, which has drawn criticism, particularly due to the noticeable age gap between Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt. A user wrote, “But what is wrong with Shahrukh? Why can’t he do an age-appropriate romcom movie like the old days :/ There’s Tabu, Kajol, Rani, Aish, Madhuri, Shefali. Honestly, the list is never-ending. The age difference will be very apparent between these two because Alia has a baby face.”
Another person wrote, “This will be a zero-chemistry, lackluster thanda couple. A much older man, a much younger woman pairing onscreen should scream. It feels so wrong and so hot at the same time.”
Why Was Inshallah Shelved?
The film was first announced in 2019 with Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead. However, differences in creative vision between Bhansali and Salman led to the project being shelved before production commenced. Following this, Alia Bhatt was cast in Gangubai Kathiawadi, which went on to achieve critical and commercial success.
At present, Shah Rukh Khan’s association with Inshallah remains unconfirmed and largely speculative. However, if the project materialises, it is expected to become one of the most talked-about films in Bollywood. Despite the ongoing criticism, the combination of Bhansali’s cinematic vision, Shah Rukh Khan’s star power, and Alia Bhatt’s performance could make it a compelling watch.
