Actor Sonakshi Sinha has openly reflected on her fast-paced early career, sharing how constant work in her 20s pushed her close to burnout. After a strong debut with Dabangg, she quickly became one of Bollywood’s most active young actors. However, she now says that phase came at a personal cost. Looking back, she admits she barely slowed down during those years and often moved from one set to another without breaks.
Sonakshi Sinha Admits Being ‘Burned Out’ From Overworking
Sonakshi Sinha began working in her early 20s. She acted in 23 films and also appeared in eight special appearances or dance numbers. Speaking to Hindustan Times, she described the intensity of that phase. She said, “I started working very young. I was 22 when I started and 23 when my first film was released. My entire 20s went into work. I felt like I was burning out, doing more than I should be. I was constantly on the go. I would not take time off for myself or breaks in between two films. I would go from one set to another. I did double shifts at one point in time.”
She explains that she often prioritised work over rest. As a result, she barely had time for personal space or recovery between projects. She said, “‘I need to make time for myself. That will help me improve as an actor as well as a person’. That’s when I started making certain changes in my life. My whole direction changed in the way I approached work, or the kind of work that I do.”
In recent years, her workload has become more selective. Since the pandemic, she has worked in seven films and two web series. She added, “You learn. It doesn’t come to you automatically. At that point in time, I felt this was the way to go. Also, I lived a very protected life. For me, that was me seeing my work. I enjoyed it while I did it. But you reach a point where you realise there is more to life than just work.”
About System
Looking ahead, Sonakshi Sinha will next appear in System, directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. The courtroom drama features her as a young lawyer who challenges her own father in a high-profile murder case. Ashutosh Gowariker plays her father, a senior defence lawyer, while Jyotika appears as a court stenographer and her ally. The film is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on May 22.
Overall, Sonakshi’s journey reflects a shift from constant hustle to mindful working. She now focuses more on balance, selective roles and personal well-being while continuing to evolve as an actor.
