Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor has time and again proven that she is a staunch feminist. The ‘Sanju’ actress has always taken a stand against inequality, discrimination and apathy in general. Even though the #MeToo movement has slowed down in recent times and is not being talked about that much, Sonam Kapoor has penned a powerful note on the #MeToo movement. She wrote that it should be celebrated rather than looked down upon.

In a column for Thrive Global, Sonam Kapoor wrote about a range of issues and how #MeToo is very much needed at this moment. The actress said that, “The women in my family have been trailblazers. They are empowered, vocal and undismissible. It’s perhaps why my mother recently shared the following quote with me: When you have a lot, instead of building higher walls, build a bigger table.”

Sonam also shared her views on sexism in the Hindi film industry, objectification of women in item songs and how that has made her uncomfortable. The diva also urged people to believe survivors and not cast aspersions on the sexual assault stories.

Sonam Kapoor made her point clear on sexism and wrote this, “As Indians, we tend to laugh at inappropriate jokes out of politeness. It’s not funny, it has never been funny. Roasts, for example, are not funny. It’s not okay to make sexist, homophobic, racist jokes in an environment which is rife with sexism and discrimination.”

Sonam Kapoor, further talked about how it is time to change the mindset and stop with the victim shaming. The daughter of Anil Kapoor has reiterated that time for misogyny and sexism has to stop and it has to be a level playing field.
