The recent terror attacks on the Amarnath Pilgrims brought to the fore the safety levels of Indians who continue to be terrorised and killed by militants. The incident happened on Monday, when a bus full of pilgrims registered from Gujarat was attacked at Khanabal, Anantnag by terrorists who opened fire. Around 7 pilgrims were killed and 19 others were injured, but the quick presence of mind of the bus driver saved many lives inside the bus. The driver named Sheikh Saleem Gafoor became a national hero as he saved the pilgrims from further bullet shots by maneuvering the bus in spite of the tire being shot and engine seizing up. While many Bollywood celebs condemned the terror attacks, singer Sonu Nigam came forward and offered to donate an amount of Rs 5 lakh to the driver for his bravery. The singer revealed to a daily, “Such people are always given a bravery award or medal for their actions by the government. But they should be financially rewarded for their goodness and amazing presence of mind.”

It’s indeed a great initiative by Sonu and we hope others follow the suit to award those who are brave.
