Sonu Nigam Reveals Why He Didn’t React To CJP NEET Protest

Speaking to Bombay Times about the viral clip, he said, “Firstly, in the last more than three decades of being in Mumbai, I have learnt one basic etiquette for any press conference. Always adhere to the agenda of the occasion and do not let conversation wander to disconnected matters.”

He added, “Talking politics when you have come to talk about your tribute to your Guru Pankaj Udhas is disrespectful in my eyes. And I would very politely expect the press and media gathered to maintain the same decorum.”

What Happened Earlier?

In the shared clip, a journalist asks for his opinion on the student protests. To this, Nigam responds, “Main yahaan kis liye aaya hoon? Bas…bas…bas (Why have I come here? That’s it… enough… enough).” As more questions follow, he concludes the interaction with, “Ab ho gaya bas (It’s done now, that’s it).”

Nigam clarified that his silence was influenced by a promise he made to his father not to comment on issues he was not well-informed about. He shared that he does not have social media on his phone. Nigam asserted that his life is centred around music and bhakti. The singer highlighted that he has taken stands in the past. It was opposing loudspeakers at religious places and advocating for royalty rights for performers. He believes it’s now time for others to take up causes and create change through their actions.
