Suniel Shetty Reveals Rejecting Rs 40 Cr Tobacco AD Deal; Says, “It Would Tarnish Ahan, Athiya And Rahul’s Reputation”

Suniel Shetty recently made headlines by rejecting a lucrative Rs 40 crore tobacco AD, emphasizing his commitment to his health and principles over financial gain. The debate over Bollywood celebrities endorsing tobacco and alcohol brands has been ongoing, with many critics questioning the social responsibility of public figures, especially given their influence on impressionable youth.

Suniel Shetty Reveals Rejecting Rs 40 Cr Tobacco AD

In a candid podcast with Peeping Moon, Suniel explained his reasons for refusing such offers. The actor said, “I owe everything to my health. It’s my body that gave me a chance in the film industry. If I don’t treat it with respect, I’d be doing an injustice to myself. What legacy am I leaving behind for my children? I may not be as relevant today in terms of cinema or box office, but I still receive immense love and respect from 17- to 20-year-olds. It’s surreal.”

He shared that he was offered Rs 40 crore for a tobacco ad, and he responded firmly, “Do you really think I’ll fall for it? I won’t. Maybe I needed that money, but I refuse to do something I don’t believe in because it would tarnish the reputation of my children, Ahan, Athiya, Rahul, and everyone around me. After that, no one even dares to approach me.”

Notably, other Bollywood stars like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn have faced criticism for endorsing pan masala brands. Fans and social media users argued that Akshay, a fitness enthusiast, should avoid endorsing chewing tobacco. However, Ajay largely remained unfazed. However, Akshay later issued an apology to his fans for his endorsement choices.

Suniel Shetty’s Upcoming Projects

Suniel is set to appear in Welcome To The Jungle, part of the popular Welcome franchise. It also stars Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Lara Dutta, Raveena Tandon, and Disha Patani, among others. Originally scheduled for release last December, the film is now expected to hit theaters later this year. Additionally, he is slated to star in Hera Pheri 3, directed by Priyadarshan, alongside Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal.
