On actor Prabhas’ birthday, the makers of Fauzi unveiled the film’s teaser and gave Rebel fans the ultimate gift. While the audience praised the clip, the teaser faced criticism from a few, including Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew. After glimpsing the teaser, Chandra Kumar Bose – a socio-political activist and former BJP vice-president in West Bengal, demanded that the filmmakers take it down for allegedly distorting history.
Chandra took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking strict action against the clip. He also urged director Hanu Raghavapudi to understand the “seriousness” of the matter. Scroll below to read what he wrote.
Subhas Chandra Bose’s Grandnephew Demands Strict Action Against ‘Trivialisation Of Netaji’ In Prabhas’ Fauzi Teaser
On Tuesday, Chandra Kumar Bose took to X and shared the letter he sent to the I&B minister. Along with the letter, he tweeted, “The teaser of Fauzi ought to be pulled down, corrected and released again. Should our concern regarding Netaji be resolved (for the teaser as well as for the Movie), my best wishes go out for #Prabhas and the entire team @FauziTheMovie . Hope @hanurpudi realises the seriousness”
In the attached letter, Chandra notes that the teaser was released on October 23, the 83rd Balidan Diwas of revolutionary leader Bhagabati Charan Panigrahi. For the unversed, Panigrahi was a revolutionary leader and an associate of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. In the letter, Bose also to how Netaji – the Supreme Commander of the Indian National Army and the first Prime Minister of undivided India, was shown speaking to Adolf Hitler and thereafter introducing a fictional spy named Fauzi.
The latter part of Chandra Kumar Bose’s letter to the I&B minister read, “We take strong offence to this trivialisation of Netaji. We also fail to understand as to how could the Censor Board clear such an objectionable content. You are requested to kindly look into this very serious concern and get it investigated. It shall be the right service to the nation if you make sure that this teaser is pulled down and the responsible ones at the Censor Board are punished in an exemplary manner.”
Fauzi Teaser
On October 23, Prabhas’ 47th birthday, the makers of Fauzi took to social media and released a video titled File No. 25. This clip offered – set in Berlin in 1942, not only introduces the Rebel Star’s character but also shows Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose approaching Adolf Hitler for support in his fight against the British rule in India.
In it, Hitler suggests that Indians are accustomed to being ruled after being slaves to the British for 200 years. In response, Bose describes an Indian superspy who helped the Japanese defeat the British and take control of Singapore. He then reveals that the spy has developed an undecipherable secret code inspired by the Bhagavad Gita. The video then cuts to a dishevelled looking Prabhas making a powerful entry. He’s seen smoking a cigarette, and firing a large gun at an unidentified target.
The Fauzi teaser received mixed reviews with many praising Prabhas’ character and the larger-than-life manner in which it is presented. However, it also received criticism for their depiction of Bose and Hitler. The makers of Fauzi are yet to respond to the backlash and address Chandra Kumar Bose.
