Varun Dhawan and Karan Johar

The nepotism drama does not seem to end. After the infamous ‘Koffee With Karan 5’ episode, wherein Kangana Ranaut called Karan Johar the flag-bearer of nepotism, the term has been spoken for so many times, that it’s a weary task to even read about the same. Many have spoken both for and against it, and the latest to speak about it, yet again, is actor Varun Dhawan.

As you all will remember, when first asked about the whole controversy, Varun had a really amateur opinion on the matter. If one remembers clearly, Varun had said, “They (outsiders) are acting if their father hasn’t even bought a pencil box for them. After a point, it just becomes an excuse.” Not just this, at the IIFA ceremony this year, Varun, along with Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar, had gone on to poke fun of Kangana on stage, in her absence. This called for much flak for the actor, and he apologised later on.

However, now, he has something else to say on the whole nepotism debate. (Also Read: Varun Dhawan is super excited for ‘Terminator 2’)

At the recently held Jagran Cinema Summit, where the young actor was a guest for ‘Future of Stardom’ session, he was asked about the allegations on his mentor Karan Johar, that the latter only launches star kids. Varun jokingly replied to the same by saying, “Who made these allegations? You can take the name,” which resulted in quite a humorous situation.

It was then, that the actor chose to reply and surprisingly, he did not take Karan’s side. Instead, he gave quite a balanced answer. Varun said, “Who all has he (Johar) launched? Star kids only, right? So how is it an allegation? It is a fact, right? However, he has also launched a lot of directors also, like Shashank Khaitan, who is a dear friend. He is from Nashik and he had nothing to do with films. He just gave his script to Karan, and Karan wanted to make a film with him. Karan has also made a film titled ‘Gippy’. He launched a girl with that too. Siddharth (Malhotra), he is also not a star-kid, but Karan launched him also.”

He went on to add, “So, what Kangana (Ranaut) is saying is right, but this whole thing is too blown up. I think she was trying to get her point across in her way, but people really stretched it too much. Such things happen in the fraternity!”

Well, well, seems like daddy’s boy has grown up. Work wise, Varun is gearing up for his next release ‘Judwaa 2’, which is a remake of the 1997 superhit movie ‘Judwaa’ which starred Salman Khan. This movie, like the previous one, is being directed by David Dhawan, Varun’s father and celebrated filmmaker.
