Ghajini, Lagaan Actor Pradeep Rawat Passes Away After Cancer Relapse; Funeral To Take Place Today

Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat – who left an impression on all with his memorable on-screen villain performances, is no more. The actor – best known for his performances in Ghajini, Lagaan and Mahabharat, died at the age of 74 on Tuesday (August 4) evening at a hospital in Bhiwandi. Pradeep Rawat Passes Away; Funeral To Take Place Today

Pradeep Rawat’s death news was confirmed by the actor’s manager, Siddharth Tiwari. He informed HT City that the actor had been fighting blood cancer for the last five years. Although he had fought the disease four years back, the cancer relapsed six weeks back. They quoted him saying, “He passed away today, August 4, somewhere between 6 to 6.30 pm. He survived cancer four years back, but again, since the last one and a half months, it was a relapse of cancer. So, he was hospitalised since one month. All of a sudden, his platelets went down and from there, he just couldn’t recover.”

Rawat’s Lagaan co-star Yashpal Sharma took to Instagram and shared details about that the actor’s antim darshan and last rites. He wrote in Hindi, “Heartfelt tribute… It is with great sadness that we announce that our dear Late Pradeep Singh Rawat (Pradeep Singh Rawat) has departed for the supreme abode. You are respectfully invited to pay your tribute to the departed soul by attending his last darshan and funeral. Date: 5 August 2026 (Wednesday) Time: 2:00 PM Location: P3 Parking, Imperial Heights Near BEST Colony Goregaon (West), Mumbai Om shanti”

Pradeep’s Career

Born on January 21, 1952, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Pradeep Rawat’s illustrated acting career spanned over four decades. Alongside Hindi films, he also starred in several regional language films such as Telugu, Tamil, and others.

One of the first roles to get him fame was his memorable performances as Ashwatthama in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat in 1988. He later starred in several Bollywood films playing powerful supporting and negative roles. He played Sultan in Aamir Khan’s Sarfarosh, the fiery fast bowler Deva Singh Sodhi in Lagaan, and the ruthless Ghajini Dharmatma in both the 2005 Tamil film and 2008 Hindi remake Ghajini.

Pradeep Rawat is survived by his wife, Kalyani Rawat, and their son, Vikramaditya.
