In a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, sharing why she hasn’t watched any films of the legendary NTR, the actress said that she doesn’t speak Telugu. “But I remember visiting my mama and mami in Hyderabad when I was very young, and I think that’s when I heard the name NTR for the first time. Over time, I realised what a phenomenon he was,” said Vidya.

Reasoning out what drew her to this film, Vidya shared, “I have always been interested in this aspect of how stardom affects the people around the star, and how different people react differently to it. In this case, Basavatarakam was a very private person who held her own despite being the wife of a demi-god. People knew of her but they didn’t know her and that is interesting for me as an actor.”

Talking about why she took up this biopic on NTR, Vidya revealed, “It’s a biopic on NTR and while Basavatarakam is not NTR, she is extremely integral to his story and that’s why I’m doing this film. I’m looking forward to the experience. Their storyline and screenplay were in place, but work is in progress yet. I still don’t know what it is about this film that interested me. Let’s say it was an instinctive decision.”

Helmed by ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ director Krish, this biopic will see NTR’s sixth son, Nandamuri Balakrishna play his role in the film. The film’s ensemble cast also boasts of talented actors like Jisshu Sengupta and Rana Daggubati playing LV Prasad and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, respectively.
