Hindi Medium, Sachin A Billion Dreams, Half Girlfriend

God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar’s biopic, ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams‘, had a good start at the box office. The movie did a business of approximately Rs 7 crore nett in Hindi. Considering the fact that it’s a docu-drama, the numbers are really good. We have never seen any documentary movie minting so much on the opening day. It was way back in 1979 that a movie called as ‘Cinema Cinema’ had a good opening but that was because of the presence of huge stars like Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman in the film, so people went expecting a regular commercial movie.

In the case of ‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’, the Sachin factor has worked and the opening day collection is really good. The movie has also released in other languages like Marathi, English, Tamil and Telugu and that should take the overall business to Rs 8 crore nett. Now talking about last week’s releases, ‘Hindi Medium’ and ‘Half Girlfriend’, the former did a better business than the latter. Irrfan Khan-starrer ‘Hindi Medium’ did a business of Rs 2.25-2.50 crore nett on its second Friday taking its overall collection to Rs 24.50 crore nett. The movie has clearly excelled on positive word-of-mouth publicity and has performed better in the weekdays. The movie is a success and will hopefully continue fetching in more numbers this weekend too. Mohit Suri’s ‘Half Girlfriend’ has shown a drop in collection on the eighth day as the movie has raked in Rs 1.25-1.50 crore nett. The total collection until now is Rs 48.50 crore nett. The movie has witnessed a drop in numbers on the weekdays, as ‘Hindi Medium’ held better.

Meanwhile, ‘Baahubali 2-The Conclusion’ continues with its superb box office run as the movie has minted Rs 1.75 crore nett on the fifth Friday and that has taken it’s Hindi language business to Rs 490 crore nett. The business in Mumbai alone has been Rs 180 crore nett whereas in East Punjab it is Rs 50 crore nett.
