Punjabi singer Sunanda Sharma has leveled serious accusations against music producer Pinky Dhaliwal, claiming that he exploited her by withholding payments for her songs, which has led to significant financial and emotional distress. In light of these allegations, Dhaliwal was arrested on Saturday. Sunanda shared her story in a heartfelt social media post, detailing her reasons for speaking out against him.

On Instagram, she articulated that her experience reflects the struggles of many middle-class artists who fall prey to unscrupulous figures in the industry. In Punjabi, she wrote, “This issue isn’t merely about money; it’s about the mental harassment I suffered. It speaks to every artist from a middle-class background who aspires to build a career but ends up ensnared by these ‘crocodiles.’ They make us work hard while they profit from our efforts, treating us as if we were beggars. Oh Waheguru, these individuals consider themselves greater than you.”

Sunanda opened up about the toll this took on her, stating, “They subjected me to mental harassment. I would cry alone in my room for days, and there were moments when I contemplated ending my life. Yet, I managed to keep a smile on my face. I realized that if I revealed my pain, it would only attract another predator.” She urged fellow artists who have faced similar exploitation to come forward and share their experiences.

In her post, Sunanda also made a passionate appeal to the government for help in recovering her rightful earnings. “For two years, I’ve been begging, ‘Please don’t do this.’ I request the government to assist me in retrieving what I am owed. I’m thankful to our Chief Minister for listening to my plight and acknowledging the voices of all women who have fought for their rights. I also appreciate the support from the Punjab media.”

In her formal complaint, Sunanda accused Dhaliwal—who runs companies like Mad4Music and Amar Audio—of unlawful, exploitative, and defamatory actions that have caused her financial loss, mental distress, and reputational harm. She alleged that the producer pressured her into performing at events without providing appropriate compensation, stating, “Despite earning over Rs 250 crore during this period, he unlawfully seized all my income and never made a single payment directly to me. This blatant financial exploitation has severely affected my stability and well-being.”

Additionally, she claimed that Dhaliwal built considerable personal wealth at her expense through illegal actions, including misappropriating her earnings, collecting performance fees without authorization, and manipulating her financial rights. Sunanda also asserted that whenever she demanded her payments, Dhaliwal threatened to ruin her career and damage her standing in the industry.
