From commercial entertainers to intense, layered storytelling, Jason Shah’s acting journey has been anything but predictable. The Revolutionaries actor recently recalled his experience stepping into Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand cinematic world with Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar and how the experience changed him as an actor.
Heeramandi Shaped Jason Creatively And Personally
Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Jason described working with Bhansali as deeply transformative. He stated, “Working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali was a transformative experience for me as an actor. Every filmmaker has a unique process, but Sanjay sir’s way of working is truly distinct. I still remember the first time I met him; there was no formal interaction. He simply walked into the room to observe whether the actor chosen for the role felt right to him (laughs).”
Jason explained that Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was not just a project but an entire world in itself. He also spoke about how the project pushed him to grow, both creatively and personally. Jason added, “Heeramandi itself was a world of its own. We dedicated years of our lives to that single project, and that kind of commitment is rare. The scale, detailing, and emotional depth demanded a different level of discipline and surrender as an actor. The project also brought me nationwide recognition on a much larger scale, given the immense anticipation and buzz surrounding it. It was an experience that shaped me creatively and personally.”
Looking back, Jason believes Heeramandi played a major role in shaping his journey. It not only expanded his understanding of cinema but also helped him evolve as a performer. For him, working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali was not just a career milestone but a learning experience that will stay with him for life.
