EXCLUSIVE: Niki Walia Says NO To Being Typecast In Glamorous Roles; Shares Raw Desi Audition Video Saying, “I’m Not Just A Pretty Face”

Niki Walia has been a familiar face in the entertainment industry for years and has made her mark by taking up strong and varied characters across television, films and other mediums. The seasoned actress has never limited herself to one kind of role. After recently being seen as a loud Punjabi character in the Bollywood film Bhai Tera Star Hai, Niki has now given fans another glimpse of her versatility.

Niki Walia took to Instagram to share an audition clip that showed a much more raw and desi side of her. Unlike the glamorous and polished image that audiences often associate with her, Niki kept her look extremely simple in the video. Through the post, she also made a strong point about casting and urged the industry not to put actors in a box based on their appearance or image.

Niki’s Instagram post came with a clear message — she does not want to be considered only for classy, posh or elite characters. She pointed out that actors should be judged for their ability to perform and not simply for how they look.

The actress believes that today’s actors have access to prosthetics, makeup, dialect coaches and several other tools that can help them transform for a character. For her, acting should not come with limitations based on one’s appearance.

Niki: I Don’t Want Casting Directors To Look At Me Only For Classy, Posh Or Elite Characters

Talking about the message behind her Instagram post, Niki Walia revealed, “I don’t want casting directors, production houses or direction teams to look at me only for classy, posh or elite characters. Today, with prosthetics, different makeups and the right preparation, a versatile actor can play almost any kind of role. I did this audition because I wanted to showcase another side of myself and let people see that I am not limited to playing a beautiful, glamorous or elite character.”

Niki further stressed that she is open to experimenting with different characters and even learning new dialects if a role demands it. She feels that an actor should not have any fixed boundaries when it comes to performance.

She added, “If a role needs a particular dialect, I can work with a dialect coach and learn it. As actors, we don’t really have boundaries. I want the industry to consider me for all kinds of acting roles and not decide beforehand what I can or cannot play. I want to be seen for my talent and versatility. I‘m not just a pretty face.”

Talking about her Instagram post, the caption carried the same sentiment as she wrote, “Please Don’t stereotype talent,” while speaking about being told that she does not “fit the part” because she looks too glamorous, pretty or classy. The audition clip is another example of Niki trying to break away from such perceptions. By choosing a simpler look and showcasing a more grounded side of herself, the actress has made it clear that she wants her work to speak louder than the image associated with her.

On the career front, she’s set to entertain fans with another exciting project very soon.
