Now that The Bengal Files has reached both theatrical and digital audiences, how do you look back on the emotional and creative journey of portraying your character?
“It has been a very interesting journey, not just The Bengal Files but the entire Files trilogy, starting with Tashkent, then The Kashmir Files, and now The Bengal Files. Each character has been more complex than the previous one. I am very happy that the film is on ZEE5 now, and more people will be able to see all three Files together, and they can even binge-watch it if they want to. The journey has been excellent, and I think I have grown a lot not just as an actor or producer but as a human being. I have changed a lot as a person. I understand human emotions so much better now, having dealt with the pain and the research that we undertook. So yes, it was a life lesson.”
Your roles often require deep historical and psychological immersion. What was the earliest moment in the script or research that made you feel, “This character will stay with me”?
“In one simple, plain line, I would say that when I realised I wouldn’t be able to play this character because there was no way I could do justice to it from where I was, I knew this was one character that would stay with me: if I ended up doing it, I would never forget it, and if I didn’t, I would regret it for the rest of my life.”
