When asked about getting into an argument with a close one over her brand image, Poonam Pandey recalled a nasty fight with one of her girlfriends. She said, “There was this World Cup controversy that happened in 2011, and it was like she asked, ‘How did you become a celebrity?’ Like I’m doing a job, I don’t know anybody here, but I love cricket. Oh, Poonam, let’s do something. And this girl said, ‘Itna himmat kaha se aaya? Mujhe bhi sharam aati hai to call you my friend. And that broke me, ‘Oh god, she used to be my closest friend.’ It started from there.”

Poonam Elaborated On The 2011 Controversy

She said, “It could have been a spur-of-the-moment. It was a very short excitement. Every Indian is a cricket fan. I was like I did Ladrax khatam kar diya hai, Kingfisher calendar kiya hai and I was feeling cool about myself. Then I was like ‘celebrity ka tag kiu nahi mil raha hai mujhe?’ So it was more of Poonam abhi World Cup chal raha hai, chal statement pull karte hai maza aayega. It was more of a kid thing. Also, it was when I was 18 or 19.”

The actress added, “It was 2-3 years before my debut film. It was masti honestly, but after it came out kuch 22 court case huye the. And that’s when I realised, oh shit, what did I do? That’s when Poonam Pandey ka janam hua tha. I just felt that. Ek bolte haina ki aap sab jhel rahe ho, duniya samjh rahe ho. I think maine jitna samjha hai iss society ko. I can write a book. By 40, main 100% book likhne waali hoon.”

Poonam On Picture With Sachin Tendulkar

When asked about the picture with Sachin Tendulkar during World Cup 2011, the actress clarified, “That was not me; it was an edited picture. Kisi aur ne kiya tha, woh literally mera naama aya tha saamne. That wasn’t me or done by me. It was a fan edit. Yes, I remember that was the biggest controversy. I used to get calls and was confused about how to tell people that it’s not me. I have not done this. I could be enough ballsy to do everything, but the minute my country comes in, I am a step away. Because wo humaara area nahi hai, aur jahaan soojh samjh naa aaye wahan kuch nahi karo toh behetar hai.”

In 2011, model and actress Poonam Pandey gained national attention due to a controversial pledge she made during the ICC Cricket World Cup.
