Sanjana Sanghi has steadily carved her own space in the entertainment industry with performances that balance vulnerability and confidence. While audiences first noticed her in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar, she rose to prominence as a lead actor with Dil Bechara, opposite the late Sushant Singh Rajput. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress opened up about choosing not to move to Mumbai immediately after Rockstar and preparing herself before Dil Bechara. Scroll on to know what the actress had to share.
Sanjana Sanghi Reveals Turning Down Early Fame After Rockstar
Talking about the sudden attention she received after Rockstar, Sanjana Sanghi revealed that she consciously chose not to shift to Mumbai at a very young age despite the opportunities coming her way. “I was getting pulled to Bombay immediately after Rockstar got released because it became such a phenomenon, and I would have meant that at 15-16 years of age, I would have moved. Without you know… even knowing who I am.”
She added, “So I am really happy that even my younger self had that awareness that no you need to discover yourself, you need to make friends, fall in love, study, do internships, learn theatre, all of which I did in Delhi University. And then when I came to Bombay and shot for Dil Bechara, I feel I was a lot more ready for that opportunity.”
Sanjana Sanghi On Leading Dil Bechara At 20
The actress further reflected on the pressure and responsibility that came with leading a film like Dil Bechara at a young age. Sanjana admitted that she felt more emotionally and professionally prepared by the time the film happened. “Because if such a big opportunity had come to me and I wasn’t prepared, that’s a disservice. Right? And leading a film is a huge responsibility. Especially when you are just… I was just about 20 or 21 when I was shooting for Dil Bechara. So, suddenly, so much money is riding on you. You are in every frame of the film; you have to ensure that you are performing at that level. With incredible actors as well. So I think that really made me grow up in a way that I could have never imagined.”
Sanjana also spoke about the scale and reach of Dil Bechara and explained why she deeply values commercial cinema that connects with audiences on a massive level. “Dil Bechara was an out and out commercial film. Some 300 million people have seen it. So, I understand the positive impact of scale. There is nothing like a massy film. There is nothing as good as a film that touches the masses.”
Over the years, Sanjana Sanghi has balanced mainstream visibility with thoughtful career choices, while also continuing to evolve as an actor beyond the image audiences first connected with.
