Supriya Pathak On Pay Disparity In Bollywood
When asked about the pay disparity in Bollywood or the industry, Supriya Pathak said, “Dekhiye, main doosron ke payments ke baare mein toh zyada nahi jaanti hoon. Lekin ek baat main zaroor maanta hoon ki yeh sirf hamari industry ki problem nahi hai. Yeh world over problem hai. Aaj bhi bahut si auratein iske baare mein lad rahi hain. Pay disparity ek proper conversation hai jo women empowerment ki fight ka hissa hai. Aur definitely, poore world mein — chahe koi bhi profession le lo — even if you are better at it, sirf isliye ki aap ek woman ho, wahan pay disparity hoti hai. Toh yeh jo ladai hai, woh abhi bhi chal rahi hai. Aur jaise Sana ne pehle kaha tha, women empowerment for her means equality — aur woh equality aane mein abhi bhi thoda time hai.”

Industry stakeholders frequently justify this gap by citing market forces and the higher box-office appeal of male stars. Actresses like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have publicly addressed this imbalance. Figures such as Aamir Khan argue that pay is directly tied to an actor’s revenue-generating ability.
