2. Dharavi

The 1993 film, directed and written by Sudhir Mishra, featured Dixit alongside Shabana Azmi and Om Puri. The movie was set against the backdrop of India’s largest slum and went on to win three National Awards, including that for Best Feature Film in Hindi.

3. Dedh Ishqiya

In the sequel to the 2010 black comedy ‘Ishqiya’, Abhishek Chaubey tells the tale of two crooks, Khallu and Babban (Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi) who fall in love with Begum Para (Madhuri Dixit Nene) and her aide, Muniya (Huma Qureshi). 4. Mrityudand: The Death Sentence

The Prakash Jha directorial saw the spotlight shift from Dixit’s flawless dancing to her impeccable acting. Also starring Shabana Azmi, Om Puri and Ayub Khan, the movie married arthouse and commercial cinema. Dixit was a treat in her role as Ketaki, a small-town girl who marries into the local zamindar’s family and takes to empower the other women in the house.
