The situation in Hollywood industry currently is quite tumultuous. After the writers going on a strike in May, the Screen Actors Guild has joined them from July 13. Following failed negotiations with the studios, Hollywood actors have gone on strike. Many leading actors in the West have came out in support of the guild in the matter. Now, Priyanka Chopra Jonas has joined that list too.

Priyanka Chopra supports Screen Actors Guild strike

Priyanka took to her social media to share a picture of the Screen Actors Guild logo, with the words ‘SAG AFTRA Strong’. Along with it, she wrote, “I stand with my union and colleagues. In solidarity, we build a better tomorrow.” Before her, actors Emily Blunt, Rami Malek and Matt Damon also showed their support to the movement. They did so by walking out of the premiere of their upcoming film Oppenheimer in London.

Screen Actors Guild strike

With the writers and actors getting together, this labour battle has become the largest Hollywood industry strike in over 6 decades. On July 13, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) voted to join screenwriters in a joint strike after failed negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for a new contract.

Since the actors have also joined the strike, projects which were running in the last 2 months after the writers’ strike, also face the risk of being stopped abruptly. The two labour unions have come together to chalk out a more equitable contract for them. It is to save them from being replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as get better pay.

Priyanka Chopra upcoming movies

Priyanka has a Hollywood film underway with Idris Elba and John Cena titled Heads Of State. And owing to the strike, the film’s development will be halted. The actress is a member of SAG AFTRA. Thus, she can’t work on any project in Hollywood until a new contract is established.

Apart from that, she was to do Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa with Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt. However, recent reports suggest that she has walked out of the film.
